Property tax deadline is extended in France after website crashes
Thousands logged on simultaneously to pay their taxe foncière bill just before midnight deadline

Tax officials have extended the deadline for online payments of the taxe foncière property tax after the impots.gouv website crashed due to high volume of users logging on to pay just before deadline yesterday (October 15).
Thousands of users logged on to try to pay before the deadline – 23:59 on October 15 – in place for those who have less than €300 to pay for the tax.
However, the influx of users crashed the website and IT teams were unable to immediately fix the problem.
The deadline to pay the tax online has now been extended to October 20 for everyone, without any fines or penalties.
Payments made through the French tax site will be debited within five days of the payment being made.
New October 20 deadline
October 20 is the original deadline for those paying digitally (paiement dématérialisé) who faced a tax bill of more than €300, and that needed to be paid in a single instalment.
If your tax bill is over €300, you can set up monthly payments of the tax through your personal space on the French tax site for payments in 2025 and beyond.
Late payment penalties can be levied against those who do not pay on time, but tax authorities state that “online payments can be made without surcharges for late payment up to five days after the payment deadline shown on the tax notice.”
Taxe foncière payments are expected to raise an estimated €50.8 billion in 2024.
