French weather outlook: Dry two weeks ahead

Stormy October weather gives way to clear skies in November

A spell of high pressure will bring particularly dry weather to most of the country for the first two weeks of November

The stormy October weather will give way to clear skies and mild temperatures in the first two weeks of November as an anticyclone settles over France, the state weather service Météo France is forecasting.

October was a particularly wet month in France, with precipitation at around 40% above usual levels observed around October bringing flooding to several areas of the south and south-east.

Indeed, in Var and Nice, and in the Cévennes, rainfall was more than three times the normal level for October.

The wet weather gave way to an Indian summer for much of the country in the last week of October - a trend that will continue in the first two weeks of November, as a period of high pressure covers the northern half of the country, which will be felt in Ile-de-France, Hauts-de-France and Normandy in particular.

Météo France notes that the spell of high pressure will bring particularly dry weather to most of the country.

“The outlook for early November does not seem to be conducive to a rapid return to precipitation,” says Météo France.

“We could therefore have a dry spell lasting more than a week over most regions, which has only happened twice since the start of 2024”.

The high-pressure spell will likely bring fog and veiled clouds in the mornings.

Weather outlook November 1 to 14:

The weather will remain anticyclonic, which means it will be calm and dry overall, although it may be wetter locally around the Mediterranean.

Temperatures will be above seasonal levels, but should then fall back towards normal as the month progresses.
