A 22-year-old cyclist was seriously wounded in Lyon after being stabbed in a row with two men who were riding an e-scooter.

The cyclist was stabbed in the chest, and was taken to hospital by emergency services.

He is now in a serious-but-stable condition. Previous reports stated that he had died but Rhône emergency services have since confirmed this is not the case.

The incident happened at around 13:20 on Avenue Thiers in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes city’s 6th arrondissement on December 12.

The argument broke out over a disagreement over who had the right of way on the road, reported Actu Lyon. The three reportedly began arguing after the cyclist did not allow the e-scooter to go first.

When police, firefighters and the SAMU arrived at the scene, the cyclist was lying on the side of the road with severe stab wounds. He was taken to the Edouard-Herriot hospital as a critical emergency.

The two men who were riding the e-scooter involved in the incident fled from the scene, and are now being hunted by police. It is not clear which of them stabbed the cyclist.

The police nationale du Rhône has opened an inquiry into the case, in a bid to determine exactly what happened and how the stabbing occurred.
