Bookings are now open for stays in a lighthouse on a Brittany island for a weekend, with guests able to hire the entire island privately.
Bookings opened today (November 22) for the stay on the île Louët in the Baie de Morlaix in Finistère, Brittany.
The island is owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral. The lighthouse keeper’s house is now co-managed by the town council and the tourist office. It was converted into a gîte by the municipality of Carantec in 2008.
Every year it welcomes guests for one or two nights (€428 per night, or €709 for a weekend of two days and two nights). Guests can stay in the former lighthouse keeper's house (which is now unused, as the lighthouse is automated). Converted into a simple but comfortable gite, it can accommodate up to 10 people.
There is a fully-equipped kitchen and four bedrooms in the house with a bathroom in the former ‘fisherman's shed’ outside the house. There is also a small, south-facing terrace with views over the coast.

‘You’ll have to be quick’
Booking is now open for stays from the beginning of April until the end of August 2025. Usually, the calendar extends to the end of October, but the site is set to undergo renovation and insulation work later next year. There are thus 76 booking windows now available, down from the usual 106.
Bookings can only be made online, via the ‘Réserver la maison du gardien du phare’ (Book the lighthouse keeper's house) page on the www.baiedemorlaix.bzh website.
“You'll have to be quick, because we reckon all will be gone in about 10 minutes, if things are anything like last year,” said Jérémy Gomes, who is in charge of the unusual gîtes in the Bay of Morlaix, to Le Parisien.
If you are disappointed, there is an (almost) second chance: Stays at similar gites in the former school on the nearby Île Callot will open for booking on Wednesday December 18 at 10:00.
